Renowned South Korean singer 휘성 Wheesung (43, real name Choi Wheesung) was found deceased at his residence on March 10. Authorities, including the police and fire department, reported that he was discovered collapsed in an apartment located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, at approximately 6:29 p.m. following a distress call from his family.
Ongoing Investigation into Cause of Death
Officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding휘성 Wheesung’s passing. Given the condition of the scene, they believe a significant amount of time had passed before he was found. While no evidence of foul play, such as external intrusion, has been discovered, authorities are looking into the possibility of drug overdose or suicide. Debuting in 2002 with his first album Like a Movie, Wheesung quickly rose to fame with hits such as Can’t I?, With Me, The Day We Met Again, Incurable Disease, and One Year. Beyond his success as a singer, he was also a talented lyricist, having written songs for major K-pop artists, including Younha’s Password 486, TWICE’s Dance The Night Away, and Ailee’s Heaven.
In 2017, he established his independent label, Real Slow Company. However, during his career, he faced personal hardships, including the sudden passing of his manager, which reportedly left him in deep distress.

Wheesung had previously faced legal issues related to substance abuse. In 2021, he received a one-year prison sentence with two years of probation for illegally administering the psychotropic sleep anesthetic propofol. Reports indicate that between September and November 2019, he had purchased and used the substance multiple times. Additionally, in 2020, he was found unconscious in different locations in Seoul after reportedly using etomidate, another anesthetic known for its sedative effects.
