The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a new big-screen adventure starring one of the most famous plumbers in pop culture over the past four decades, is the result of the iconic global entertainment brands Illumination and Nintendo coming together for the first time.

Based on the world of Nintendo’s Mario games, the movie takes viewers into a vibrant, exciting new world that has never been seen before. It is an action-packed, joyful comedy event at the movies.

While fixing a water main underground in Brooklyn, plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt of Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie) and Luigi (Charlie Day of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) fall down a mysterious pipe and find themselves in a magical new world. But when the brothers are split up, Mario goes on an epic journey to find Luigi.

Mario learns to use his own power with the help of Toad (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King) and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy; The Queen’s Gambit), the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom.

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jack Black (Jumanji films) plays Bowser, Seth Rogen (Neighbors franchise) plays Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live) plays Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson (American Dad!, Family Guy) plays Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book) plays Spike. The movie was written by Matthew Fogel and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who also worked on Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part).

The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes from Nintendo and Illumination, the company behind the Despicable Me, Minions, Sing, and The Secret Life of Pets franchises. The movie is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri p.g.a. and by Mario’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, after more than six years of close friendship and discussions. The movie will be released by Universal Pictures all over the world and is co-financed by Nintendo.
